The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford- September 10th

The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford (2007)
English- Western
Rated “R”
Runtime- 159 min.
dir. Andrew Dominik

Don’t worry, the movie is almost as long and wordy as the title. j/k lol

Story/Writing: 2/2

A great big sweeping historical drama that is not for the weak of heart. Its main tendency is very much towards character development and interaction, so I wasn’t kidding about the wordiness.

Acting: 2/2

The interaction between Pitt and Affleck is palpable throughout each scene. Before watching, I was unaware that there was also other great people in the movie. The list is as follows: Ted Levine, Sam Rockwell, Sam Shepard, and Zooey Deschanel.

Gorgeous except for the experimental bits. During some of these sections, the film becomes a little hard to look at. I get what they were trying to do, but I’m afraid it may not have worked in this context.

Sound/FX: 1.5/2

Good gunfights, as good as any other modern Western or neo-Western I’ve seen. I’m not sure about the music, but most of it’s okay.

Misc: 2/2

I was surprisingly fulfilled at the end of it, like I had reached the end of a seven-course meal. Not that I’ve ever had one.
