The Fountain- August 29th

The Fountain (2006)
English/Spanish- Sci-Fi/Fantasy Drama
Rated “PG-13”
Runtime- 96 min.
dir. Darren Aronofsky

I really picked quite the grouping, didn’t I?

Story/Writing: 1.5/2

For what it is, it’s really crazy weird. Three stories are told simultaneously without any background given. It took me about half the movie just to wrap my head around each of them, much less to draw parallels between them.

Acting: 1.5/2

Hugh Jackman is dynamite, basically carrying the whole movie on his back. Rachel Weisz adds to this as his character’s primary motivation.

Photography/Set: 1.5/2

Wild and fantastic locations are continuously swept through at an even pace, and with great framing and camera movement.

Sound/FX: 2/2

Amazing computer-generated sequences provide fantastic spectacle to match a great story.

Misc: 1.5/2

VERDICT: 8/10

A wholly satisfying drama about a man and his long-lost soul-mate.
