As a substitution for Sukiyaki Western Django, I chose a Youtube series that I watched with some of my fraternity brothers last week. Be warned, it’s very long at this point (around 5-6 hours) and still growing.
A pretty cool take on the Slenderman mythos, the film follows a student filmmaker as one of his shoots becomes much stranger than he had imagined. The series then follows him as he explores the reasons behind the sudden and frightening chain of events.
Pretty terrible most of the time, like when the actors open their mouths. At times however, it can be scarily realistic.
The “handheld” aspect isn’t exploited too much, keeping things closer to the perspective of a real person than that of a camera. The producers are certainly very lucky that there are a lot of good locations to shoot at in their area.
Surprisingly good, on both the practical and special side of things. I still haven’t figured out some of the staging tricks they pulled in oder to get some of their “reveals”.
Pretty watchable, if you can stand the bad acting, and the parts when nothing happens.
Highly recommended for a long night with friends. Start watching at midnight in a dark room, finish when the sun comes up.
P.S.- I’ll be changing the schedule around and such and probably abandoning some of my original premise in exchange for my sanity. So, stay tuned.
