For those of you who are immediately curious as to why I used a non-standard poster for this post, it is because the primary poster is technically unhealthy.  That, and I don’t think pneumonia is very romantic.

Story/Writing: 1.5/2

The size and weight of emotions in the plot overcome the trifling problem of predictability.

Acting: 2/2

Gosling’s typical awkward and distant character fits perfectly with the more outgoing Rachel McAdams to form some really good screen chemistry.

Photography/Set: 1.5/2

The on-location sets are all cool, and the period feeling is good when it needs to be.  The only pitfall is the framing and editing style, which feel way too much like a made-for-TV movie.

Sound/FX: 1.5/2

Misc: 1/2

Not completely as satisfying as I had hoped.  And no, I didn’t have it out for this movie from the start because of its popular accolades, I just didn’t think it was all that.

VERDICT: 7.5/10

You’ve already seen it if you care, this was just my two cents.
