Gomorrah- June 20th

Gomorrah (2008)
Italian- Neapolitan Crime Drama
Not Rated
Runtime- 137 min.
dir. Matteo Garrone

Adapted from a book, Gomorrah was unpredictable and pretty well-written, though background knowledge concerning the Neapolitan mob is needed to understand some of the plot points.

Story/Writing: 1.5/2

Like I said, pretty good.  Managing to intertwine five separate stories is no small feat.

Acting: 1/2

Not great, but not unwatchable.

Photography/Set: 1.5/2

The shooting style isn’t bad, but the large number of locales is further scattered by the numerous plot lines within.

Sound/FX: 1.5/2

Good gunplay and decent violence effects, but a lot of the latter happens out of frame after the beginning of the film.

Misc: 1.5/2

Although the dialogue kind of reads like a book (imagine that) and the violence is subdued (again, like a book), the overall form isn’t bad when it’s not boring.

VERDICT: 7/10

Watchable.  (and with the subtitles, technically readable too)
