The Long Goodbye (1973) English- Crime Drama Rated “R” Runtime- 112 min. dir. Robert Altman
I’ve always liked movies that manage to fall into a certain genre, while also managing to make some changes to the category.
A really poignant story about an outdated detective, Philip Marlowe, as he untangles a confusing web of lies and deceit.
Elliott Gould is really good in the lead as Marlowe, but the rest of the cast is a little wishy-washy at times.
A lot of really cool on-location shooting, but there were a lot of strange framing and editing techniques that don’t really fit.
Good use of sound and effects, making the most of a little. The soundtrack has some good ideas, but overuses its one main theme, making it quickly stale. There’s only so many times I can listen to differently arranged versions of the same song!
Good for you gumshoe fans who want to see something new.
