Grave of the Fireflies (1988) Japanese- War Drama Not Rated Runtime- 88 min. dir. Isao Takahata
I was referred to this movie by way of the flick I watched back in January called The Little Norse Prince. They share the same director, and a lot of the same style choices.
A deep, heartfelt story about a young man who must care for his sister during WWII. Taking place on the Japanese homeland, the emotional feeling of the film is mostly grim, but there are bright spots.
The principal voice actors are really good, but there is a lack of emotion in a lot of the ensemble.
Really good sets design, but a lot of the overall strength comes from the color choices.
A very cool animation style.
A great film that is complimented by very good design and style choices.
A must see for any fan of Japanese animation or WWII dramas.
