Chinatown (1974) English- Noir Rated “R” Runtime- 131 min. dir. Roman Polanski
Again, another film that I wish I had more time to talk about, but I’m really tired right now and I need to finish this up.
A good plot, just make sure that you’re paying attention throughout. Very deep and very dark.
The principles, Jack Nicholson chief among them, carry the plot. This while the side characters make the most of their screentime.
Well-dressed sets that take the time to fit the period perfectly. The shooting techniques are all good, and fit with the style. The problem is that the clarity of focus brings to light the “cardboard cutout” feeling of some of the backdrops.
There is definitely some production value behind a lot of the action scenes, but some of the technology seems a bit off.
A nice, tight storyline brought together by good acting and a decent attention to detail.
Really good for fans of Nicholson, Polanski, or the noir genre in general.
