The Secret of Kells- May 25th

The Secret of Kells (2009)
English- Family
Not Rated
Runtime- 75 min.
dir. Tomm Moore and Nora Twomey

There were plenty of cooler posters available for this movie, but I chose this one because it is the same as the one on Netflix.  It is unappealing as all get out and a bad choice on their part.

Story/Writing: 1.5/2

Kind of a run-of-the-mill plot style, but it keeps interesting with some slight tweaks.

Acting: 1.5/2

Good voice actors that match up with the on-screen characters well.

Photography/Set: 1.5/2

Really cool sets, but there are a lot of overused backdrops.  Great framing and shooting style all around.

Sound/FX: 2/2

Cool and unexpected sound effects and soundtrack work that helped to bring the emotional content of the scenes to a much higher level.

Misc: 2/2

The reason I brought up the gripe about the cover earlier is because it doesn’t do the animated content within any justice.

VERDICT: 8.5/10

Good for fans of animation, but also just makes a good overall family and children’s film.
