Restrepo- May 1st

Restrepo (2010)
English- Documentary
Rated- R
dir. Tim Hetherington and Sebastian Junger

So this is a slightly different format than I usually use, I hope it works a little better as far as readability goes.  I am also going to be trying something else new in the next week, so be on the watch for that.

As I said earlier, if you watch a documentary on Netflix, you will have new ones constantly suggested to you.  The problem is that documentaries have a strange hit to miss ratio, so they are difficult to pick.

Story/Writing: 1.5/2

Hetherington and Junger were embedded with the 2nd platoon of Battle company during their deployment in the Korengal valley.  At the time, the valley was one of the most deadly parts of the country.

Acting: 2/2

The emotional toll of constant warfare is visible in every soldier’s personality as their mission proceeds.

Photography/Set: 1.5/2

The editing comes into play to help reveal the most important parts of the footage that was gathered.  And of course, the set is very good.

Sound/FX: 1.5/2

The sound gets a little off at times, but they probably didn’t have the best equipment with them for recording.

Misc: 1.5/2

Great quality, and a good message, but the linearity is questionable at times.

As watchable as any other documentary.  Very informational if you are interested in the day-to-day ground operations of the Afghan conflict.
