So here we go: Johnny Depp in a movie where he doesn’t play a silly and outrageous character of some kind. This one happens to be a Western with a fair amount of other talent present.
A city slicker from Cleveland finds himself swept up into the weird and violent world of the Wild West.
As I said before, great talent available in the ensemble. Gary Farmer, John Hurt, and Robert Mitchum are just a few who are part of it.
Interesting set, but I saw a couple of them repeat, which kind of shut down the feeling of openness. Also, not a lot of open vista shots, which should be present in a Western, regardless of film type.
The soundtrack was irresponsibly balanced, even so much as to sometimes ruin the dialogue. The gun and violence effects were good, though.
Actually, a fair amount of rewatchability.
A must watch for fans of Depp or weird Westerns.
