For April 14th- The World of Drunken Master

Here’s the thing: A standard 70’s imported martial arts flick.  Supposedly somehow related to the Jackie Chan movie of a similar name, but I’m not sure how much.

Story/Writing: 1/2

The plot doesn’t always know what it’s doing all the time, and the ending is strange and somewhat repetitive.  However, the comedic timing is pretty good, and most of the individual scenes make sense within themselves

Acting: 1/2

Again, off and on.  The comedy works, but the dramatic and plot elements lose their meaning at the worst times.

Photography/Set: 1.5/2

Beautiful scenery that is very easy to photograph.  Great vistas for the more epic scenes, and the colors are great.

Sound/FX: 1.5/2

I suppose the martial arts bits would best fit under here and Misc.  Really great choreography, some of the best I’ve seen.  No cheap editing effects are used to overplay the skills present.

Misc: 1/2

Almost manages to come together, but most comedies need a basis in drama.  Sadly, there is not nearly enough present in this film.

A pretty fun little Kung-Fu flick, it’s just too bad that there are better.
