I’ve been a big fan of Simon Pegg and Nick Frost’s work ever since Shaun of the Dead hit. Their style of acting has always been dead-on when it comes to encapsulating the “nerd” culture. Paul is no exception to this trend, and you can tell that those involved with the project really ” know their stuff” so to speak.
References to the culture are present throughout the script, as well as the characters. The most enjoyable parts were the ones that almost slipped by me because they were used as throwaway lines, and with an attitude that made them seem to be part of the original script.
A neat story with an exciting game of cat and mouse, and other mouse. The swearing gets to be at bit much, sometimes filling in for actual dialogue.
Pegg and Frost are spot on as the geeky protagonists that you have to root for. The ensemble cast is fun to watch and adds a lot of color to the movie.
Neatly blurs the line between action and comedy by making most of the blockbuster action bits fit neatly into the comedic plot.
Paul is really well animated, with good facial expressions. The sound and music are as professional as the big Hollywood flicks they spoof.
Pretty good jokes combined with some clean action and a few nerd references.
A great movie for nerds of any variety.
