I would first like to apologize for my long absence. This spring I was in charge of my fraternity’s annual fundraiser and I got really busy managing that over the past two weeks. The good news is that our event was successful this year and we are looking to donate several thousand dollars to the ENMU Foundation and the Fisher House.
Anyway…I know there are a lot of these movies out there. The kind of stories where some scrappy, low-rent underdog has the talent it takes to be noticed by those in positions of power, and then the heart it takes to rise above the adversity facing him. This one just happens to be extremely well cast and very well executed.
Although predictable at times, as I alluded to just a moment ago, the plot is still good, and moves along at a relaxed pace. The writing is great, adding subtle flavor and extra dimension to all the characters. Damon and Affleck do a great balancing act with writing and acting.
Like I also said before, the casting is phenomenal. Williams and Damon play off each other perfectly in the two leads. The supporting cast is great with both Afflecks, Driver, and Skarsgard adding their parts to the film.
Good, real sets that are very well dressed. The photography is interesting enough, and is able to switch gracefully and quickly between different scenes with different moods.
Good enough to pass. It doesn’t need to be good, but that doesn’t mean that it shouldn’t try to impress. The soundtrack is pretty good, with some good recurring themes.
A great movie that definitely deserves the praise it gets.
A great watch for a group of friends who like award-winning films. Good for film nerds as well.
