For Feb 18th- The Room

The guy above this arrow ______^ has a really funny expression on his face.

When I originally found “Birdemic”, I had no idea the painful experience that lay before me in watching the movie.  Did it look bad? Yes.  Could it have been awesome bad like “Megashark vs. Giant Octopus”? (which you should watch by the way) Yes. Did it end up being physically exhausting to watch? Absolutely.

Now, “The Room” is a movie that I heard plenty about.  Just looking at the DVD label, reading the description on the sleeve, and looking at the menu screen had me already making judgments about the film.  Most of these prejudices ended up being correct, something I wasn’t too pleased about.  I wouldn’t have minded being wrong about this one.

Story/Writing: .5/2

A supposed dark comedy that is only funny in being so absolutely terrible.  A contrived story of love and betrayal, yadda, yadda, yadda.  Stretches a half hour plot into over an hour and a half.

Acting: 0/2

Painful to watch.  Wiseau as the main character has the emotional capacity of a cardboard box, and he’s probably the best out of the whole cast.

Photography/Set: .5/2

The scenes were captured on film.  Good job.  The whole thing reminded me of a soap opera.  I would’ve rather watched three episodes of “As the World Turns”.

Sound/FX: .5/2

Same as the photography.  Better than a high school film project.

Misc: .5/2

VERDICT: 2/10

Good for perhaps a laugh.  If you invented a drinking game made up of taking a drink whenever a character failed to properly emote, you could end up in the hospital after half the film.  Also, rated “R” for very good reasons.
